Invisalign®

You’ve always wished that you could correct your smile, but it never seemed like the commitment to the look at feel of conventional braces were worth it. After all, your teeth aren’t complex in their crookedness, and you don’t want to spend a long time with metal brackets on your teeth. We understand the reservations that many people have around having traditional braces installed in adulthood.

What if there was a way to straighten your teeth without all the metal and dental cement? Now, adult professionals across Canada are straightening their teeth in plain sight… and no one can tell!

Invisalign® aligners are metal-free plastic trays that are custom made to fit sleekly over your teeth with a near invisible profile, both from the front and side views. These trays click into place over your natural teeth and apply just enough pressure to each tooth to encourage it to move in the direction of the pressure. In this way, adjustments occur more gently than metal braces. While some orthodontic adjustments, particularly in the beginning of treatment, can cause pain and inflammation in the mouth after they occur, Invisalign® wearers report little-to-no discomfort with the gentler approach offered by Invisalign®.

Confidence

The importance of a confident smile in a person’s ability to feel at ease in social situations and in their everyday life shouldn’t be underestimated. Crooked teeth can make some of us feel like we’ve chronically underdressed for the party. A straight smile allows us to fully express ourselves without stifling our joy by trying to hide our teeth. We think that everyone deserves to grin widely, often and with confidence.

No Patchy Staining

Conventional braces use dental cement to adhere metal brackets to the teeth and over time staining that occurs on the teeth can occur without our knowledge – until we take the brackets off to reveal that the area under the bracket is visibly lighter than the rest of the teeth. With Invisalign®, your teeth will not stain unevenly. Your aligners will be worn at all times with the exception of during meals (22 hours a day). You aren’t likely to have significant staining because Invisalign® allows for easier cleaning of your teeth from food debris and acids before reinserting the trays in your mouth.

Healthier Mouth

With a cleaning regimen like this, it’s no wonder that many Invisalign® wearers report improvements in their oral health and diet. Brushing and flossing seem like a quick jolt to the washroom – until you’ve done it 6 times that day! As you settle into a routine with your aligners, you are less and less likely to snack throughout the day and your teeth may be the cleanest they’ve ever been!

For the Love of Food

With Invisalign®, you get to enjoy the foods you love without having to abstain from sticky toffees or crunchy delicious popcorn. You can eat your favourite foods at mealtimes all you like, as long as your teeth are clean of debris and acids when you replace the aligners. We think that sounds like a pretty great trade-off!

Easier Cleaning

Speaking of cleaning the teeth, did you know that the straighter your teeth become the easier they are to clean? When teeth are crowded, tilted and overlapping, attempting to clean effectively between them can be a difficult job for your toothbrush and floss. As your teeth begin to align, your oral hygiene routine will become more and more efficient as there are fewer places for bacteria and acids to hide away. In this way, straight teeth are a benefit to your oral health.

Not for Complex Cases or Children

There are some instances that are not appropriate for treatment with Invisalign®. Since the rigorous cleaning regimen can be demanding, this system is not appropriate for children. The routine required to remove and replace your aligners throughout the day does require a responsible patient, since these aligners are thin and clear and easily misplaced.

Our recommendation is that you always keep your last pair of aligners when you move on to a new set. This allows you to replace a lost set with one you wore previously in order to ensure that you don’t backslide in your progress while you wait to see your dentist for direction.

Candidates that are responsible and can maintain the Invisalign® protocol are reaping all the benefits of this great alternative to metal braces. If you think Invisalign® is right for you, book a consultation with us. One appointment is all that is required to determine your candidacy and get started on the path to a more beautiful smile.
